Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize 2016

I’ve received my customary annual rejection email from the judges of the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize. However, nice to see the prize is slowly warming up to my work:

“However, I did want to let you know that your photograph(s) did make it through to the second round of judging which included around 346 images. This year we had a total of 4,303 prints submitted into the competition from 1,842 photographers so the competition was very strong.”, Keeley Carter, Exhibitions Manager.

Roll on next year! As is customary, I’d like to share my entry images with you.

For the technically minded, the three backstage colour images were shot on Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II cameras with Olympus M.Zuiko lenses, apart from the backstage shot featuring balloons, which was with a Voigtlander Nokton f0.95 lens. The colour batman portrait was shot on an Olympus PEN E-P5.

The two black and white images were shot on a Leica Monochrom (M246) with Leica lenses.

All editing and processing was done on Adobe Lightroom. The colour images were finished in Alienskin Exposure X and the monochrome images were finished in Nik Software Silver Efex Pro.

Portrait Salon 2015

A Portrait Of Jordan

Happy to share that my portrait of Jordan Ebbitt has been selected for Portrait Salon 2015. It’s to be published in the book and will be exhibited at The Embassy Tea Gallery, Union Street, Bankside SE1, from the 19th of November 2015.

The portrait was shot using an Olympus OM-D E-M1 and Olympus M.Zuiko 25mm f1.8 lens during one of my bespoke one on one photography workshops. The lighting was from two Quantum Q-Flashes with soft boxes. Processing was done in Adobe’s Lightroom and finished using Alienskin’s Exposure 7 plugin.

The Taylor Wessing Portrait Award 2014

My Six Portraits

It’s that time of year (well, a few weeks ago now!) when the Taylor Wessing Portrait Award shortlist is announced and sadly, I didn’t make the shortlist. However, friends ask to see the images I entered, so thought to share them far and wide.

The good news though is that several colleagues have been selected and for the first time in years, I’m really looking forward to the exhibition and the announcement of the winning image.

Two pieces of good news in one day (shortlist of PPOTY)! Have just been told that my photograph, A Portrait Of Maya, has made the shortlist  of 15 images chosen by public vote in G-Tech’s Driven Creativity Competition 2013.

I’d like to thank everyone who voted for the image. Lets all keep our fingers crossed for the judging, the results of which will be announced on November 15th.

Congratulations on all the other creatives for making the shortlist and for G-Technology Europe for their support of the arts. Big thanks to Maya and again, for everyone who voted. I really appreciate it 🙂

Very happy to share that my portrait of legendary Magnum Photos photographer René Burri has been awarded a Mark Of Excellence by the judges of the I Shot It competition.

The judges commented, “Great style and a portrait ‘in motion’ that might be one of the best of the person. Simple and informal, yet very formal and iconic. Who wants to be photographed in a studio if you can get a photo like this by simply sitting down for a moment?”.

Platon

Power Through Portrait

An absolutely fascinating presentation by Platon about his portraits of the planet’s leaders; those in power. Naturally this covers the politicians but goes much further, covering the tech leaders and finishes with the leaders of the Egyptian revolution. Very inspiring work and interesting stories about the portraits.
