Thrilled to announce that Steve Simon and I will be hosting a photography workshop in London, from July 10th to the16th, 2022. This fully immersive workshop will be focused on street photography and travel photography, with direction and feedback from us both, on a daily basis. Steve and I will share our own approaches and philosophies to capturing daily life, on the streets. You can see more about my work here.

Those who know me, know how deeply I value workshops, the sharing of knowledge, thoughts, concepts and feedback. I’m a firm believer that one never stops learning. Every shoot brings unique circumstances and one learns something new every day. Having started as a passionate photographer in 1986, I turned professional in 1989, primarily as a photojournalist, but also as a commercial photographer, a social photographer and a short film maker. I thoroughly enjoy passing on knowledge and tips and helping those new to the industry, the hobby or a particular aspect of our work as professionals, to pick up new skills and further their career. Anyone who has been on any one of my workshops or presentations will hopefully vouch for my passion and energy for image making.

The best way to really advance our craft, is to have a totally immersive experience. To dedicate the week and really focus the mind and soul, as well as sharpen camera skills. Photographing, exchanging thoughts, sharing of images, not just with Steve and myself, but amongst fellow workshop attendees too, is one of the absolute joys of such a photographic workshop.

We’ve kept the number to a maximum of eight, which means we can cater for a wider cross section of photographers, all the way from enthusiasts who want to learn about street photography and explore London with an inquisitive eye, to advanced photographers and professionals, who really want to focus their skills in street photography. This small group ensures much more personal attention to all attendees and creates a closer knitted group too, resulting in a much more productive experience.

“UNLOCKED” – a public art project by the Ealing satellite group of London Independent Photography, with the generous support of Ealing Police Station, to stimulate reflection and discussion of the impact of the pandemic on our daily lives and ways forward. This unprecedented project will be on five storeys, on the front of the Police station, providing a canvas, the likes of which have probably never been seen in London before.

We need to ask a favour! This is a huge exhibition project planned for September, as part of BEAT. It’s a project that has taken over a year of planning and discussion.

Alongside generous support by FujiFilm UK, we’ve applied for an arts grant to help with the funding. As part of that application for the grant, there is a crowdfunding aspect. The grant committee will monitor how many backers we have and from that, gauge interest in the outdoor exhibition and decide to back this unique project or not. Honourable Mention in the International Photography Awards
Thrilled to share that one of my images has received an Honourable Mention, along with the work of six other colleagues from around the world, in the professional Sport category, Court Sports.

The photograph was made whilst I was exploring Clapham Common, on my way to an exhibition opening nearby. Regular readers will know of my passion for street photography and documenting daily life. It always pays to explore and have a camera handy whilst doing so.
The image was shot on an Olympus OM-D E-M1 camera and a 25mm lens. The image was processed in Adobe’s Lightroom and the BW conversion finished in Alienskin Exposure X2.
Many congratulations to all the IPA 2017 winners and all whose work received an Honourable Mention. My thanks also to the jury who found my photograph interesting!
Had a wonderfully enriching experience; love it when life brings unexpected joys such as this. After collecting my failed entry into the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize on Friday, I was driving straight home. Something made me change my mind as I was drawn to the South Bank, for absolutely no solid reason, other than a feeling.
Camera in hand, I began wondering around and in a short time stumbled across an amazing group of dancers performing amongst the public, along the Queens Walk on the South Bank. They were superb. I approached them afterwards to find out some details and was told they were just practicing ahead of their proper performance later in the evening. So, naturally I hung around.
Ahead of the performance, the group got together in a circle to mentally prepare. I was watching this from outside, contemplating a photograph when voices called out. A few of the dancers called out for me to join in the circle as I had a “good energy”! How very wonderful! Such a gift to get magical experiences like this. The performance was wonderful, made lovely images and ended in such great conversations with the dancers. Just fabulous 🙂
On a technical note, the image was made with a Leica Monochrom (Type 246) and a Leica 35mm FLE Summilux, processed in Adobe Lightroom.
