PPY (Press Photographer’s Year) have announced this years winners.

A big congratulation to all the authors of the chosen works and specially to the author of the Photograph of the Year, the biggest accolade given in the competition, Rosie Hallam.

I’m happy to say that one of my images, a shot of Barack Obama, has made it into the “Selected” photographs (its number 108 in the slideshow).

A big congratulations also to the winner of the Multimedia section, Abbie Trayler-Smith, who’s audio slideshow can be viewed below:

UK Folding Three Pin Plug = Genius

This is absolute genius. The biggest problem with the UK plug is that its huge. In laptop bags, its always the item that takes up so much more thickness than anything else and when travelling abroad, it takes up a huge amount of luggage space for all the mains adapters one needs.

This design by Mr Min Kyu Choi is stunning. Lets hope it goes into production.

Images On Flickr

Just a quick note to let you all know that I’m now also posting my images onto Flickr.

For professional purposes and ordering prints, my Photoshelter site is still the one to use, but for browsing pictures and leaving comments, do check out my Flickr page.

Tiananmen Square: a night of despair

On the 20th anniversary of the tragic events at Tiananmen Square, The Guardian’s Dan Chung has put together some spectacular films using footage from 1989 married to recent interviews and footage of the square yesterday. These are well worth a watch:

The New York Times has a couple of very interesting posts and images of the iconic and brave moment when a man blocked the tanks.

Canon 5D MkII Audio Hacked

5D Mark Free audio meters from Trammell Hudson on Vimeo.

Well, its happened. The audio function has been hacked on the 5D MkII to allow an override on the automatic gain control. This is superb news and my congratulations go to Hudson for this.

There’s a thread on the Cinema 5D forum exploring this update to the camera’s firmware.

New FaceBook Fan Page

FaceBook & Twitter are a great way of keeping in touch and networking, both in a professional and a social sense.

I’ve just set up a FaceBook page HERE for anyone who’s interested in my work. There are already seven projects on-line to look at and I’ll be updating it with more photographs as time goes on.
Please feel free to pass on the link to anyone who is interested in photography, journalism and technology. So, swing by and click the “Become a Fan” button. From time to time I’ll be sending out updates on my work and also any news which will be interesting. Cheers 🙂
