  1. Interesting rig. With the camera-mounted mic I’m guessing you are a one-man band. I can relate.

    Thank’s for sharing! One question: why bother with a $700 mic fed into a consumer quality recorder with its noisy pre-amps?

    • I do generally work on my own, although on bigger (relatively speaking) productions, I have worked with separate sound recorders. For my purposes and my clients, the Zoom H4n is of stunning quality. The NTG3 sounds amazing on it and I have used this combination to great effect. The recorder is capable of harnessing the mic’s qualities; for example, if I use my NTG2, I can hear a sizeable jump in quality when I use the NTG3. Naturally the Zoom H4n is at a certain level and there is better equipment out there (always the case, in everything!). Just out of interest, what would you recommend? Thanks for the compliments on my photography 🙂
